I've owned this for about a year now.
I installed the scanner software onto the computer first before attaching the USB cable from the scanner to the computer and the entire installation went smooth as silk. Do not purchase a Microtek scanned. Get to Know Us. Once I solved my cable routing issue I went back to using the supplied cable.
All you have to do is set your desired scan preferences one time and then from then on just press 1 button, the scan button on the front panel and it scans the photo and then it will open up the image in your favorite imaging software. I was unhappy with the purchase from the onset and have subsequently purchased a Canon F There did not appear to be any transfer time differences between the two cables but I did not have a stop watch out.
I tossed the Microtek and bought a Canon. Select import and the Microtek ScanWizard interface opens. Since this scanner died, I've replaced it with a Canon CanoScan F, which is much faster and scanmaoer bundled with software of much better quality.

I was so ready to throw the damn thing out the window you have no idea!! There was a problem loading comments right scanjer. I am not sure why other people that bought this scanner had so many problems. It failed to recognize my computer and when I finally achieved a good scan it just stopped.

Scanmakee is horribly slow, but I'm using the pictures I'm scanning for a slideshow of pictures throughout my life at my Bar Mitzvah party, and the quality of the pictures are very good.
